9:52 pm - Predetermination? I think not.
|
Fate, or hard work?
I've been asked if I believe I have a predetermined role in the universe. I suppose at one time the human race was very much interested in religious concepts, including predestination; and many of the races we've encountered since we began our journeys to the stars believe in similar theories. I, however, tend to dismiss any thoughts of having a destiny. Instead, I believe life is very much what we make of it. We have within us a drive to excel, to learn, to grow, to achieve. It is up to each of us to use that gift to its highest potental.
Fortunately, we are now living in a century where the quest to "make money" has been supplanted by the quest to better ourselves.
Of course, Q would argue with me and claim that the Continuum predetermines many species lots in life. Perhaps. I don't hold with most of his nonsense, of course.

12:07 pm - Intro post
|
I'm Captain Jean-Luc Picard, currently serving as captain of the NCC-1701-E version of the Federation flagship, Enterprise (Star Trek: The Next Generation for the uninitiated.)
I was born in France but left my brother in charge of the family vineyard to go in search of the stars. I've been a careerist, turning down opportunities to form lasting relationships with attractive women like Beverly Crusher in favor of becoming a Borg and baiting the immortal and everpresent Q. I'm not sure I got the best of this deal.
I like my Earl Grey hot and my Guinan cryptic, thanks.
